Howey Politics Indiana

ANDERSON - U.S. Rep. Victoria Spartz will not be facing a challenge from former Democratic legislator Melanie Wright, who is opting for a run in SD26. "I have decided to run for the open Indiana State Senate seat for district 26 that covers Delaware and Randolph Counties. The district was created through the redistricting process that was recently passed by the General Assembly with no incumbents included in the area," Wright said in a Facebook posting. "Why the change? I found myself telling political affiliates that I couldn't wait to knock doors again, build relationships with people and be a problem solver."

Wright added, "A federal race is not necessarily built on these tenants:) There has to be room in the middle for a common sense school teacher to be able to represent rural Indiana! I sincerely just want to help others and provide insight on how legislation can be molded to truly serve those in Indiana."

New maps signed into law in October took the 5th which had been +9 Republican in the Cook Partisan Index to +22 Republican in FiveThirtyEight ratings.
