  • Mayor McDermott comments on $5,000 ethics fine for Bennett
“We don’t have an Ethics Commission in Northwest Indiana. We have the FBI.” - Hammond Mayor Tom McDermott Jr., reacting to the $5,000 fine former Supt. Tony Bennett received from the Indiana Ethics Commission on an ethics breach involving political reelection activities conducted out of his Statehouse office and on state computers by staff members during the 2012 campaign cycle. Bennett lost his reelection bid to Supt. Glenda Ritz, whose staffers discovered campaign materials on state computers. There apparently was no FBI investigation into the breach.
