  • Gov. Pence laments RFRA controversy as confrontation brews
"Looking back, as governor of the state, I wish I could have foreseen the controversy that would ensue. As I've said, I regret the difficulty that Indiana passed through during a time of great misunderstanding." - Gov. Mike Pence on the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, to the NWI Times. The issue is not likely to go away. Rev. Ron Johnson of the Indiana Pastors Alliance told WRTV that many at the Statehouse “wish this was over,” saying “the fix” ended up “trampling our liberties.” Legislative Democrats, meanwhile, are vowing to push expansion of the civil rights laws to include sexual orientation in 2016. The city of Elkhart will also take up expanding its civil rights ordinance.
